Special Constabulary Steering Group

I'm the lead member for Specials in West Mercia and I'm passionate about promoting the Special Constabulary whenever I can.

Assistant Chief Constable Simon Edens chairs a regular steering group to make sure that we are heading in the right direction and that the SC delivers value to the public, to the volunteer officers themselves, and to the force.

One of the key topics this morning was when and whether a Special can use a blue light on a police vehicle. It sounds like such a simple question but it is actually really complex but we're moving policy forward now between us.

The Olympics was also a key topic because Specials nationwide will be providing much of the policing for the event.

Finally, I hope to be able to attend the attestation event for the Specials on Saturday this week when the latest recruits receive their warrant cards and start their new lives as volunteer police officers.
